Learning in Nursery

Welcome to our Nursery, where every child begins their learning journey in a warm, nurturing, and stimulating environment. Our aim is to provide children with the essential skills they need to thrive and succeed as they move on to the next stage of their lives. Through a balance of play-based learning and structured activities, we support each child’s development in communication, confidence, independence, and curiosity. Our dedicated staff work closely with families to ensure every child feels safe, valued, and ready for the exciting challenges ahead in their educational journey.

Skilled and experienced adults are on hand to support children providing resources and materials to stimulate children’s interests, support them to make links in their learning that they can then apply and develop further in their play.

We follow the curriculum outlined in the EYFS Statutory Framework. There are seven areas of learning and development that are equally important and interconnected.

Three areas known as the ‘prime areas’ are seen asparticularly important for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building the capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive.

The prime areas are:

  • Communication and Language
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical development

We will also support children in four ‘specific areas’, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied.

The specific areas are:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design
