IMPORTANT! NEW NATIONAL FREE SCHOOL MEALS VOUCHERS
Click here for the: BPA - National Free School Meals Voucher Scheme Letter
Dear parents of children eligible for Free School Meals,
You will be aware that the government have started a ‘National Free School Meals Voucher Scheme’ that will slowly replace the school lunches we have been providing families on a daily basis. The new government scheme comes into force on Monday 20th April and sees each child eligible for Free School Meals (not 'Universal Infant Free School Meals') receive a £15 E-Voucher per child per week. This voucher can then be redeemed and used to buy food.
Our office team have been working hard to register all of those children who are eligible for Free School Meals to the new national scheme and I would like to publicly thank them for their hard work on your behalf.
On Monday, you will hopefully receive an email from the government – or their partners providing the vouchers – giving you a 16 digit code to redeem and an indication of the value of this voucher. We have been told that the instructions for what parents need to do will be included in the email.
On Monday 20th April, if you have not received your email, please check your 'SPAM' or 'JUNK' folder to ensure the email and instructions have been received.
The government are promising that each eligible child will receive the equivalent of £15 per week. The BPA team will be registering each eligible child for 2 weeks worth of vouchers at a time and so the following examples will help you to understand the value of the vouchers you may receive:
National Free School Meals Voucher Scheme Examples
Family with 1 eligible child:
= £30 voucher to redeem (to last you 2 weeks)
Family with 2 eligible children:
= £60 voucher to redeem (to last you 2 weeks)
Family with 3 eligible children:
= £90 voucher to redeem (to last you 2 weeks)
We have ordered the vouchers to begin on Monday 20th April (the first day available for the scheme) and we have elected to order 2 weeks worth of vouchers at a time. This is to reduce the need to travel to the supermarket each week and to allow families to plan their shopping so they have enough food for the whole of the 2 weeks and before the next vouchers are issued.
While we hope the new government scheme is effective and working well for Monday, we are aware that sometimes things can and do go wrong. To cover these eventualities, our collected free school meals will continue to be available to you from the school gates daily for the next 2 weeks. Please know this is a decision we have made as a school to ensure none of our children go hungry and it is not something we have been asked to do.
Finally, please can I thank you all for your patience and your commitment to make sure we all follow the rules, and help keep the spread of the virus to a minimum.
I hope this letter finds you and your families well and please do remember that you can contact us at school if you need any help or support.
